On the tape transport front, things were relatively quiet. Greatest activity was from Otari, introducing two new recorders and a high speed duplicating system. The MX-7308 is an eight channel recorder using 25 mm tape, with optional remote control. Layout is simple and conventional, with easy access to heads. Price is $7600. The MX-5050-8 uses 12.5 mm tape for eight tracks, and has a similar functional cleanliness. Transport is carried in one section, electronics in the other; both bolt together for transit. Rack mounting version also available. Finally, reflecting an increasing concern for tape duplication demonstration, the DP-1010. The speed ratio is 16:1, with program usable in conventional reel-to-reel or 580m loop bin formats; options are between 6.25 mm and 12.5 mm tape, with the slaves also available for cassette tape recording.
